C-WERK GmbH, a sister company of Landmarken AG, Stadtmarken GmbH and ecoPARKS GmbH, has purchased the site of the former Continental tire plant in Aachen. Companies from the manufacturing industry can be established on the site in the short term. In the long term, the developers plan to develop the C-WERK, as it will be called in the future, into an open and sustainable quarter for urban production and commerce. The development of the former Opel plant site in Bochum serves as a model.
The handover of the property is planned for July 1, 2024. The area between Eisenbahnweg and Philipsstrasse will then be ready for immediate use. "We will be able to offer attractive production space for companies from all sectors in Aachen as early as the summer," says Yannick Reichelt, project manager at Stadtmarken GmbH, which will operate and market the site. 27 halls with a total area of 70,000 square meters are available for immediate occupation, including around 20,000 square meters that are especially suitable for the production, processing or storage of rubber products. "We are delighted to be able to create opportunities for new employment here in the short term and to support companies in their expansion," continues Yannick Reichelt.
"With the signing of the purchase agreement, the traditional plant site in Aachen can embark on a new, promising future," says Manfred Moll, manager of the former Continental tire plant in Aachen. "Landmarken has proven expertise in the development of industrial districts and has already successfully and convincingly implemented many projects in the Aachen region and beyond."
The long-term goal is to make C-WERK a vital quarter and an important component of urban development. The area is to be developed step by step and supplemented with new buildings. Initial studies, which are already available, are currently being examined. To this end, the Group is in close contact with the city of Aachen and its economic development agency.
The name C-Werk not only recalls the past use of the site in Aachen, but is also deliberately inspired by a successful industrial area revitalization in Bochum. There, on the former factory site of the car manufacturer Opel, Landmarken is developing the O-WERK | Campus, an innovation quarter where numerous new users have already settled, including the online specialist retailer babymarkt.de, the VIACTIV health insurance company, various IT companies and the Ruhr University Bochum.
"We want to develop C-WERK, with its excellent connections, into a sustainable quarter for urban production, light industrial and commercial use," says Yannick Reichelt. "We are absolutely convinced of this location, which we will keep in our portfolio for the long term. With our expertise and in close coordination with the city of Aachen, we will succeed in transforming this location, also in combination with additional uses such as offices, restaurants or culture."
